enjoy your turkey

Well, if you're an average American then you are about to spend a full day centered around food... more specifically- turkey. I thought this dress was rather thanksgiving-ish, like a cornucopia of fall leaves and flowers had exploded all over it! So I wore it on Sunday in preparation for the grand holiday of thankfulness. I purchased this dress in the summer at the Rack (brand is halogen-nordies own) it spoke fall to me so I tucked it away in my closet for a rainy (autumn day) It's fun to save something for months and months and finally getting to wear it is awesome. But ...want to know what is not so awesome? Buying the dress when you are freshly sun-kissed and altogether TAN, and the colors look fab with your skin tones, but then months later when it's time to wear it, you're paler than snow white! GAHHH! Well, none-the-less, I felt cute! Oh and do you like my shoes? Are they Pilgrim-ish enough for you? And the tights... do you want some pretzel with your mustard? yes please!

purple tights

Dear Cute Day readers:
I never would have believed anyone if they told me I'd get so much out of investing in purple tights.
But I was wrong! I was a little hesitant in buying these however they go with so much!
Who knew I'd get so many cute outfits out of one pair of purple tights?

new vintage

i know i JUST in jeans today. after "dress week" it feels odd to "dress down." today's outfit was just about the necklace...it reminds me of vintage brooches all pinned together. and the shoes... i mean, really, could they be anymore, well...vintage inspired?

deets:
top: eci for macys
sweater: macys (don't remember the brand?)
jeans: joe's (also from macys)

After posting a dress every day of the week last week, it felt good to take a break from photographing my outfits. I'm still not feeling back in the saddle yet. But don't worry. Next week's festive- food folks and fun- should help bring back my enthusiasm, and I'll be on the lookout for anyone else I run into at my mom's turkey party dressing cute too!

craftastic

My little sister is a treasure trove of talents. Such talents include but are not limited to: book binding, sculpture, jewelry making, ceramics, chatrooming, and making me laugh which isn't really hard to do since laughing is my favorite past time (I might even have the most annoying laugh in the world) but that doesn't stop her from conjuring up my cackle at the drop of a hat! You know what else she can do?
look cute in this floral necklace SHE made.
I'll bet she picked up these silk flowers at the hobby lobby>!

i do so love a crafty girl

(another reason why I lover her)

her leslie hall impersonation is impeccable

cutest belly in town

{first, a disclaimer: i know it's hard to be as cute as this girl is when you are pregnant. why? oh, maybe it's the weight gain, the horomones, nausea, or just the fact that getting off the couch gets you out of breath. }

if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant, hope to BE pregnant, or just curious about baby bellies meet LISA...

how far along is she? oh, about 8 1/2 months. i know. she's delightful and adorable!!
now, lisa, give us the outfit deets!!

my uniform

this is it...

a tunic, a sweater, jeans, flats. and a necklace. (and a little boy hanging around)

i always feel comfortable and confidant in this oufit. it's simple. and cute enough for anywhere.
BUT it doesn't make me feel special. i'm working on this.
what's your uniform? like mine, does it need a tweak here or there?

the last of it

Saturday was the official last day of dress week. Since I was in the city it was easy to get dressy. We had a wonderful time celebrating 12 years this weekend (I will probably be putting a re-cap on my personal blog later today, you are welcome to pop on over if you are curious!) I hope you had a marvelous weekend too, I received so many cute photos and positive emails, it gladdens my heart. This week we will be featuring some of you cuties- we are going to have us some fun! For those of you who entered, come back later today (after lunch) to see if you won a headband! Now I am off to get the girls up and ready for school. For now, please enjoy these photos the husband snapped in our hotel room, one classic pose, and one laughing happy wifey!

anniversary dress

today we are celebrating our marriage of 12 years. In lieu of this I thought I would share with you my anniversary dress my husband purchased for me last year. Remember the one? (I know I promised a year ago I would post it but I forgot until now) Last year Pete planned a surprise shopping trip to a boutique style vintage shop- only the most pristine items make it in there) where I tried on everything!!!! And finally after much deliberation, selected THIS! (the label is Nicholas Ungar- if anyone has any information about N.U. I would love to know more, anyway...) I think it was the button and pleats that stole my heart! the pockets were an added bonus!
here's the rest of the outfit details...
(and by the way, someone told me it looked like I had a moth on my head??? what do you think?)
red ruffle shoes: Steve Madden
dot tights: target
cameo earrings: antique mall
vintage cocktail ring: Orange Vintage- Tacoma, WA.

dress up babydoll

datenight with my husband. i got all dressed up in this babydoll dress. oh man, was it ever HOT!? (the outfit was hot. the date was noneofyourbeeswax.jk.)

it's funny that i wore my glasses. i mean, guys like girls in glasses right? in college days i used to wear them to the clubs. and for some reason, i always got more guys asking for my number when i did. heh heh.

oufit deets:
dress: tracy reese ($210 but i got it for $15 at macys)
slip: actually a skirt from target (similar here)
tights: express
shoes: corso como
date deets:
temple and dinner at claim jumper. yum!

a sweater dress

this sweater dress is just TOO short on it's own, once again the vintage slip comes in handy, and adds something interesting to an otherwise simple dress. Don't the rose tights and eyelet slip look lovely together? I also wanted to show you my favorite part of my SUPER RED coat, the collar and the buttons! They are adorable together too!

Well, I have to be quick today I am tying up loose ends and packing for a little get-away with the husband for our anniversary, I hate to say this but there will probably be an outfit change tonight when we hit the wonder ballroom for Built to spill, and I'm thinking I won't be wearing a dress, so I might be breaking my dress week oath (just a little) we'll see... have a lovely weekend cuties!

{2 more days!}

listen to your elders

i actually had a moment sans children today. {whew!} standing in line at the post office to get my passport...and let me tell you, i just knew everyone there thought "what is this girl all dressed up for? the post office? COME ON! seriously?"

yes people, post office. it's something to celebrate! okay, maybe not celebrate but still, a reason to get dressed up? of course it is!! i bet my grandmothers would have done so.

then i took my children (yes, all three of them) to visit my grandpa who is probably living out the last moments of his life. whenever i visit him, he brings me to tears. today he told me that i was a good mother and i had beautiful children. somehow the man still knows exactly what i need to hear. and then he said i should take them to feed the ducks.

i mean, come on! i'm in my post office outfit! the ducks?? so, i switched into my rusty trusty boots and did what i was told!

this is another birthday dress...it almost didn't become mine. it is actually sleeveless and my mom didn't approve of it (and since she was buying) and i almost didn't get it. but, well, since it was MY birthday, i won! and i'm so glad i did.

forever dress

Another day, another dress. This one I have had for 3 years running and I still love it as much as the day I bought it. I do believe it will be joining me through my golden years. It just seems like the kind of dress that could transcend time. I love it when I see the little old ladies at church in their original 60's dresses, I hope I can still fit in this when I am retiree! (here's to trying)

Well, here is my dress today! Do I look tired to you? Well, I think I am mid blink here, but actually I am very tired too (I was up at 4 AM with a tummy ache and I couldn't go back to sleep, I was tossing and turning so much that I felt bad for disturbing my husbands golden slumber so I fled to the sofa- which is even more difficult to be comfortable on.) And then I was out of the house by 9 am and on and on, my day continued until now, finally I have a moment to sit (just before preparing dinner) at the computer, ahhh. So let's get down to the knitty gritty shall we? Um, still wearing my dresses... ARE YOU? There are so many casual options for a dress these days, no need to think of dresses as fancy-only (but I do so like the fancy ones!)
Dress: fossil
black LS top: target
black zip leggings: target (ha- yes I just wore them two days ago, I am classy like that - right MEGS!!!)
and flats: old navy (gravy!)

the end...

P.S. keep those dress week pics a comin'!

bow story

This is a vintage Ann Taylor original dress! amazing right! The zipper is OLD and HEAVY and hardly works, like it's rusty or something. Also, why is there only one pocket in this dress?- on the right hand side? Is it because this was a house dress and the pocket was for smokes? Whatever, it's great for my keys!

The bow on this little Ann Taylor number is just right there in your face, so I decided to run with it...
next came the sweater (anthropolgie) it has a bow design woven into it, can you see it in the photos?
then there is my vintage bow pin
and let's not forget the navy striped bow flats (gap)
I guess it's more like a BLUE BOW outfit!
oh and the large pearl earrings are vintage too, I like vintage earrings the most because my ears are very sensitive with almost ALL posts- they get infected easily, but clip-ons work like a charm!

show me your cards..er..dresses

ah, DRESS WEEK here at HACD! love it.

today i had some very important business. oh yes, i DID! (note the sarcasm?)

first of all, the drop at school. notoriously, i attend this in workout gear. (gasp!) and well, today was no exception.

then, it's home to get ready for the day and pick up the house a bit.

after i pick up my little girl at the bus stop we do our errands.

today we took macrae to the dentist. he's 2. hello. two. i knew i would have him on my lap on the dentist's chair. so of course, i couldn't wear a DRESS. but i had to. how could i let you all down and NOT wear my dress? thus, the leggings. i know, they are LEGWEAR not pants or are they PANTS and not legwear? i'm still a little confused.

oh, and the cardi...it's almost always a cardigan with me. i love them. this one is almost neopalitan icecream to me. yum!

this was my dress today (i apologize for the coloring. bad. very bad.)
dress: banana outlet
cardi: anthro
leggings: motherhood (yes! i know. but they are the thickest leggings i have)
boots: gift from my bro nordies

NOW REMEMBER LADIES...for the giveaway this week...please leave your comments HERE

OH BOY! A SALE!

thought you would like to know...
A big SALE @ Anthropologie going on now.
(I checked it out online, and it looks like a good one)
this email (above) arrived a few days ago, and
I normally don't like to shop for myself much at this time of year (saving for christmas-instead)
BUT, I think I will make an exception.
You see, next weekend is my anniversary... we are staying downtown, going to see our favorite band of all time, and I am now thinking we will be stopping in the local anthropologie while wondering the city. I really want to buy something wonderful, in honor of the special occasion
(12 years of wedded bliss!)
oh, and we are staying here too...
[can NOT wait!]
